When Should You Book a Wedding Florist in Rochester NY?

Updated: 7 days ago

9 - 12 Months Before Your Big Day if:

  • Your wedding is during peak wedding season or in a highly sought after location.

  • Lush, abundant wedding florals are a key priority for your big day. This gives your florist time to source them and juggle all of the details with you.

  • You have special requirements such as key seasonal blooms or your asking your florist to participate in a destination wedding.

6-9 Months Before You wedding :

  • This is the average timeframe for typical weddings in Rochester (Western) NY, which is a $2000 - $3000 wedding flower budget. (See How to Set Your Wedding Budget here)

  • This is usually a comfortable buffer to select a florist and work together to decide final options, while also keep the stress and chaos of planning to a minimum.

Less Thank 6 Months is Doable For:

  • Small weddings with minimal florals

  • DIY brides that need bulk flowers

  • Flexible brides that don't require specific stems and are confident in our creative direction

Prerequisites for Booking a Wedding Florist

There are several tasks to have in place before you call and book your wedding florist, as these will help streamline the wedding flower planning process. They are:

  • Overall Wedding Budget Known

  • Wedding Date Decided

  • Venue booked

  • Guest List Pulled Together

  • Wedding Color Palette

Here are a few flower-specific tasks to complete before visiting a florist. These are to give you a general awareness of the average cost of wedding flowers and typical prices in the Rochester/Western NY area. We also suggest creating a quick list of floral items you want - this helps you prioritize and avoid overspending!

Other Factors To Consider When You Book a Wedding Florist

In addition to the pre-requisites above, be aware of special situations that influence when you book your florist

  • Larger, more complex weddings need more time for overall planning. Give yourself and your florist time to work through all of the discussion and tradeoffs that need to happen to bring your vision to life.

  • Are you getting married during a busy season? Venues and vendors book up faster during peak wedding months.

  • Are you looking for some locally grown, favorite seasonal flowers? For example, my crop planning for the spring begins the fall before. After spring comes around, it's harder to handle special requests for local flowers.
